Nathan Joy
Senior Partner
Nathan Joy has over 12 years IT security experience in securing Australian government agencies. After completing a degree in criminology, Nathan was a founding staff member of the Department of Industry’s ICT Security Section, when the capability was in-sourced in 2003.
In 2006 Nathan was appointed to the position of Agency IT Security Advisor and managed the security of the Department of Industry, Department of Innovation, Department of Resources, Energy and Tourism & The National Measurement Institute. Nathan has been responsible for the security of Australia’s Atomic Clocks, the Australian Sports Drug Testing Laboratory, Australian Forensic Drug Laboratory & multibillion dollar Competitive Grant Systems.
Since 2009 Nathan has worked to develop and refine methods for detecting and mitigating state sponsored targeted cyber intrusions of Australian Government ICT systems and networks.
In 2012 Nathan was invited to Washington D.C to provide security briefings to the White House and the U.S Department of Homeland Security, which aimed to provide a defensive skills transfer to U.S Government Agencies. As a result of the briefings, Nathan was nominated and awarded the SANS Cybersecurity Innovation Award in 2012. Nathan is now the Director and Principle Consultant of NJOY SECURITY.
In 2014 Nathan completed the first IRAP Audit of Amazon Web Services for Australian Government use. Aside from his consulting engagements, Nathan is the Cyber Security Advisor to the Department of Communications & the Arts and was the Principle Security Advisor to the Department of Social Services $200 million dollar Aged Care Gateway Programme.
